How to make a spiral binding book?
The spiral binding method uses very durable plastic coils to connect the pages and the cover. The coil is shaped like a long spring, inserted and twisted through small holes punched along the book's cover and the spine of the page.
The number of holes per inch is called the pitch, which usually varies between 3 and 5, with 4 holes (4: 1) per inch being the most widely used pitch. After feeding the coil with the appropriate pitch into all the holes on the cover and page, crimp the ends of the coil to hold it in place.
Spiral coils have a variety of diameters and can accommodate books of different thicknesses. The more pages in this book, the larger the coil diameter must be in order to be functional and beautiful.
In most cases, the cover of a spiral-bound book is made from a different paper material than the inside. Depending on the project, the cover is usually heavier, more shiny and / or different in texture than the inside.
Some spiral-bound book items require a transparent acetate sheet to be bound on the front of the book and a black vinyl backing to be bound on the back of the book. For some book items, especially manuals, these cases are a relatively common requirement because it increases the durability and appearance of the document.
